You can then apply precise weightings to each of these requirements to specify what behaviour would define someone as being ‘100% Open’.
nGage Openness then tracks every user’s actual behaviour relative to this goal to generate their personal Openness % rating – and publishes it graphically as the Openness Icon on their My Site Overview.
This is a simple but effective device for encouraging everyone to make their skills and experience visible throughout the organisation.
And if you also deploy nGage Intelligence, you can make Openness something that can be measured and managed in more traditional ways. Out-of-the-box reports will track levels of Openness globally, by department and by location – and so help sustain the level of middle and senior management support and intervention that can be essential to securing persistent behaviour change.
These same reports can also be published on corporate communications portals to reinforce Openness as a high profile strategic objective to which everyone should subscribe.
It’s important to emphasise that Openness is an application that can start small - perhaps just focusing people on the basics of uploading a photo and filling in some standard personal information fields.
The bar can then gradually be raised so that Openness transforms SharePoint My Sites into the cleanest, most complete, most accessible and, so, the most valuable HR database you could ever have.
On its own that could mean measurable reductions in recruitment and onboarding costs - as well as a generally more transparent, more agile organization that delivers more for less.
Even more importantly, it can be the first step to making My Sites where people build and manage their identity within a highly networked organization.
